What CBD Is

While both CBD and THC are great for the body, there are other cannabinoids within, more minor ones, that are worth mentioning too. One of the most common of the minor cannabinoids is cannabigerol, or CBD, and while it’s not as prevalent as the other compounds, this is a powerful one. A lot of people use VBD to treat their mood, pain, and the different symptoms that are there. What’s the rundown surrounding it? We’ll go over that here.

What it Is

Cannabigerol, is basically a precursor in most cases to the different kinds of cannabinoids within this. Basically, it’s considered a mother cannabinoid, and without it, you’re not going to get THC. When a cannabis plant flowers, cannabigerolic acid, which is the acid form of the CBD that’s in this, is found in large amounts.

But, as there are more reactions within the plant and other chemical activities, this becomes the compounds that we’re familiar with, including THCA and CBDA, which then become CBD and THC, and usually, that happens when consumed. At this point, very little of this stays around as CBG.  So where does it originate from? Well CBGA is basically produced directly from the cannabis plant itself. It’s basically the parent to a lot of other different cannabinoids.

In a way, this is like the “stem cells” that are in our body. As the plant starts to grow up, the CBGa that’s produced in this does start to increase.  But then, when the sun hits this, causing UV light to be exposed to this, changes happen. Basically, enzymes within the plant crate the other cannabinoids within this. When you harvest the cannabis plant, about 1% or less of that is CBG or CBGa in most cases.

There are a few strains however that do get bred selectively in order to have larger numbers of CBG when it’s time to be harvested. This gets expanded, allowing for users to try out different cannabinoid blends in a simplistic manner.

The benefits

The cool thing about cannabis is that this is something that is still being studied, so we might find out more and more. But right now, there isn’t a ton of research on the benefits of CBD. There are some animal studies that CBG has, and a lot of promising results from this.  Some benefits of such include: – a natural antiseptic, antifungal, and antibiotic

Anti-inflammatory properties

Reduces blood pressure

Stimulates the bones and production

Inhibits the growth of tumors.

Is a natural antidepressant.

Can reduce intraocular pressure, to help those with glaucoma.

The cool thing about this, is that it’s also not psychoactive, unlike THC, and it’s very similar in most cases to the way that CBD does work in the body. It also can work to reduce the high that you get off THC, since both of them do utilize the same receptors. It’s a potential type of way for people to get the treatments that they want, without having to deal with the highest that come from this.It also might be good for gastrointestinal conditions, so for those that have colon inflammation, it works well.

It also may naturally stimulate the appetite, given that it’s something that can help you consume more food.

Compared to the control that was used in these experiments, for rats that consumed two times the amount of CBG, they were able to get more food, without worrying about their motor functions getting messed up.

It’s great for a lot of reasons and could be a potential beneficial compound for those with glaucoma, and right now, more studies are happening.
